Only a couple of months ago I posted about how it seemed that prospective street food traders were being denied the opportunity to bring their home-cooked fayre to the streets of Peterborough. Now however I’m glad to say it looks like street food has finally arrived!

A brief tweet from the Peterborough Telegraph’s Brad Barnes suggests that the Giraffe chain of restaurants is set to open a restaurant at Serpentine Green.
Now part of the Tesco group, the restaurants sell a variety of dishes from across the world in a relaxed, funky atmosphere in a similar vibe to other new-world style restaurants like Las Iguanas and Chiquito.

A new Indian restaurant opening a short distance from home, what could possibly go wrong!? Sadly it seems, everything. I almost wondered if this review was ever going to be about the food as it was such an arduous process getting there.

For those that have lived in Peterborough over the last 30 years or so, Topos will be a familiar (if not a slightly distant memory) name on the restaurant scene. Well that’s all set to change with a new ownership looking to clear out the cobwebs, give the interior a once-over and welcome back all the customers that it served so well over the years.
I can almost hear the naysayers naying that we already have too many Italian (and by that they mean pizza and pasta) restaurants in Peterborough – but they should remember that Topo Gigio was in Peterborough long before many of the other Italian restaurants.
