Gastric Infection

Hardly the most interesting of blog posts, but it’s a welcome one for me as it hopefully signals the end of the past three weeks.

Since early Feb, I’ve been suffering from the most god-awful stomach acid and cramps which have left me pretty much knocked for six.  With zero energy or appetite, I was living off a selection of pills designed to control the acid in one form or another.

Unfortunately it now means I’m off the coffee and curry for a bit so my days are tired and tasteless.

Anyway, touch wood, fingers crossed, rabbits foot and lucky heather on standby, the pains have gone and I’m on the mend.

Let the blogging resume!

UPDATE (May 2008)

Turns out the stomach pains above were probably a precursor to what I’ve just experienced – a burst appendix which lead onto peritonitis.  From what I’ve since read up on peritonitis, it’s quite serious so quite glad I went under the knife and had everything sorted.  Big thanks to all at Peterborough District Hospital!

Getting closer to that iPhone

I posted the other week about giving the iPhone some consideration as my next handset and now it seems O2 are doing the damnedest to make that dream become a reality by making their tariffs more realistic.

Leading gadget website Gizmodo suggest that the change has come about due to the poor sales of the iPhone in the UK.

Now all new and existing iPhone customers on O2 (because some naughty people unlock theirs) will be able to get an iPhone on a £35/month tariff and get 600 minutes and 500 texts each month. For those on the other tariffs, minutes and texts increase accordingly.

I think I need an iPhone

I don’t want a million devices in my pockets – a phone, occasional camera, personal music player and possibly some kind of GPS sat nav are typical of what might be weighing down my Next denim.

The answer is a pretty simple one, with the Nokia N95 being possibly the best all round solution for the above and with my Orange contract up for renewal shortly, I’ve been toying with the idea of leaving for O2 unless disconnections can come up with something of interest. But now I want to receive (and send) emails, it’s left me in a bit of a pickle as to which of the current breed of handsets are up to the job.

The N95 can receive email, plus with it’s Symbian operating system (I’m told) it will support a few email clients that have been cunningly written for the mobile device. The only thing that puts me off is the ABC character entry which is find for quick tapping an SMS but an email..? I don’t think so.

IOW 2008 Festival to be the best yet!

New line up announcements for the 2008 Isle of Wight Festival are flooding in fast. It’s now looking to be the best the IoW has seen in years and that’s saying something when we’ve seen The Prodigy, Foo Fighters, Coldplay and The Rolling Stones.

Ok, so I’m not going and I’ll have to get over that at some point but you have no excuse and should have your tickets booked and your cowboy hats packed!

No Isle of Wight for me in 2008

As far as I’m concerned, for me the Isle of Wight Festival for 2008 has been cancelled.

It’s a shame because the line up is one of the best for years: The Kaiser Chiefs, Sex Pistols and The Police have been announced as headlining Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Other acts announced so far include Lily Allen, The Enemy, James, The Zutons, Kate Nash, Iggy & The Stooges and KT Tunstall.

If you’re a fan of music then without a doubt you’re going to have a fantastic time at the festival, so it’s a shame that the organisers have seen fit to well and truly fleece their customers with 2008 ticket sales.

Virgin Media HD is a scam

UPDATE 17/07/09 – Since writing the below article, I’ve read news that suggests Virgin Media are finally set to give us more proper HD channels!  Read my latest post on the matter

With news that Virgin Media have halved the price of their V+ HD set top box, you’d have thought that everything was on the up for the company, listening to customers needs and getting everything right for a change. How wrong could I have been!

Selling this as an HD box is downright offensive. The only HD content you get as a V+ customer is BBC HD (which until last week was only a trial channel) and a handful of free BBC OnDemand shows of no real value. Read More…

Isle of Wight Festival First

Barely six months have gone past since the last Isle of Wight festival and already tills are ringing with the sound of ticket sales for the 2008 festival.

This time however, the tickets on sale aren’t going to get you through the gate to the main stage. Instead, the £75 Festival First tickets will buy you priority booking for a pre-sale block of Isle of Wight festival 2008 weekend camping tickets.
At first glance, this screams of being a scam. Why pay an EXTRA £75 on top of what’s likely to be in excess of £125 a ticket anyway just so you can get to the front of the ticket sales queue?
