Peterborough Curry Club visits Maharanis, Deeping

This visit was with Peterborough Curry Club and the first time to Maharanis for our members, yet we were made to feel extremely welcome by the staff who were attentive and helpful throughout the meal.  We took advantage of the restaurant’s Wednesday night deal as it seems had most of Deeping as the restaurant was at capacity with several other large groups. Peterborough street food has landed!

Only a couple of months ago I posted about how it seemed that prospective street food traders were being denied the opportunity to bring their home-cooked fayre to the streets of Peterborough. Now however I’m glad to say it looks like street food has finally arrived!

Typically the reserve of busier cities like London, Manchester, et al, Peterborough now has vendors selling hog roast sandwiches, falafel and halloumi wraps and the obligatory slow-cooked pulled pork bap. Continue reading

Peterborough City Council say No to street food

Peterborough-entrepreneur Chris Jones has been denied a regular city-centre location for his artisan food truck venture despite there already being other mobile food traders that have traded in the area for years.

Spurred on by the growing street food scene in other UK cities – and inspired by the well-established food trucks of the USA – Chris has seen a gap in Peterborough’s foodie offering and wants to bring an artisan barbecue experience to our city.

However, unfortunately for Chris he has come up against Peterborough City Council which seem pretty clueless when it comes to supporting Chris in his street food dreams.  Exasperated by the response he got from the council’s City Centre Manager Justin Beaumont, Chris took to Twitter and his own website to vent his frustrations: Continue reading

Imperial Bento Chinese restaurant to close. Update: For refurbishment

Update: After some conflicting reports from several sources, not helped by Imperial Bento seemingly unwilling to comment it turns out that the popular restaurant is only closing for refurbishment and will reopen to business as usual but having dropped Dim Sum from the menu.

Twitter user Aileen (@aileencheng58) has kindly let me use a photo she took of a notice Imperial Bento had hastily put up in their window:

With local press and social media reporting the closure of any business it’s important for management to ensure any statements are made promptly and that they are accurate. It seems in this case that staff were either unwilling to answer questions on the presumed permanent closure or were misinformed, giving out incorrect information.

This is great news for those that enjoy Imperial Bento and I look forward to visiting them again when they reopen later this month.
