Lime Prime pre-wax cleanser

Dodo Juice have only gone and done it again!  Only a couple of months have gone by since I was waxing lyrical (sorry!) about their excellent range of car waxes and already a new product is out.

Lime Prime is the perfect addition to the range and is used before an application of wax.  The thick green liquid is designed to be used on dirty panels and contains micro abrasives to gently remove minor swirl marks, old wax, tree sap, bird crap, etc.

Road chevrons confuse Tiff Needell

And I’m glad I’m not the only one! If someone like Tiff Needell can get confused by the ‘Two Chevrons Apart’ rule that’s painted onto many roads up and down the UK, then what hope is there for other motorists?
On his Auto Express blog, Tiff who is most famous for his career in motoring journalism, has found his regular drive down the A34 blighted by the introduction of large white chevrons painted onto the tarmac.

Tiff would rather see the behaviour of speed-limited heavy goods vehicles receive more control:

The point is, has the inventor of this totally unrealistic concept ever travelled up the A34 on a busy day? If they had then surely they would have campaigned for a law to stop lorries overtaking on dual carriageways if they wanted to avoid bumper to bumper pile-ups. I mean the trucker that takes three miles to get passed his mate and three hundred miles later is only three hundred yards ahead of him needs to be controlled!

Annoyingly, the chevrons only seem to serve as a method of leaving a large enough gap for someone in an adjacent lane to nip in and fill the space. Being the law-abiding idiot chap that I am, I then drop back another chevron (or is it two?) thus leaving a gap for it to happen again.
Before I know it, I’ll be back where I started my journey!

Bumbling Peterborough Police treat armed robbery as false alarm

When staff at Peterborough’s Solstice bar raised the alarm during a recent armed robbery, Police attending the scene decided it was just a false alarm after finding no evidence of a break in after attending the scene.

To make matters worse, the alarm company ignored subsequent alarms and failed to contact the nominated keyholder to advise of the situation. Not that the key holder would have been able to respond of course, they were held up inside the building and locked in an office whilst robbers helped themselves to takings.

And the cherry on the icing – an automated letter from Thorpe Wood Police Station was sent soon after explaining how false alarms are a waste of Police time!

Vitulli Racing Formula Renault BARC Team

Formula Renault team Vitulli Racing are getting set for rounds one and two of the Formula Renault Winter Championship due to take place at Donington Park National Circuit on November 3rd.   Rounds three and four move to North Yorkshire’s Croft circuit the following week.

The high profile event saw current British F1 driver Lewis Hamilton make his car racing debut in 2001 before winning the Formula Renault UK title in 2003.

An additional class will allow for cars with air intake modifications to compete with those with the 2007 bodykit upgrade.
Vitulli Racing Team Principle John Vitulli explained: The series will include a class for Formula Renault BARC FR2000 Class cars, which will have the air restrictor removed from the engine to allow them to run closer to the pace of the cars with the 2007 bodykit upgrade.

At each race meeting, grid slots will be set by the two fastest times from one 20-minute qualifying session. Renault Sport UK is currently negotiating exclusive testing for all competitors, which will take place on Thursday, 1st November at Donington Park and Friday, 9th November at Croft.

The Formula Renault UK with Michelin Winter Championship will share top billing at both race meetings with the ELF Renault Clio Winter Cup, with support races to be confirmed by the BARC.

French driver Franck Mailleux, who recently won his first F3 Euroseries race, won the 2006 Winter title with a clean sweep of four wins for the Manor Motorsport team.

Commenting on the announcement of the series, Championship Manager Simon North said: “We had a full grid of cars last year with a number of drivers making their debuts in single-seater cars, as Lewis did in 2001. It is an ideal opportunity for young drivers and karters to race in a competitive environment ahead of a full season in Formula Renault UK.”

FoxyTag for a safer Peterborough

It’s a simple concept – a virtual GPS tags signalled when close to a speed camera get stored on the FoxyTag database.  Then, when closer than 15 seconds away, the display of your mobile device updates, showing you the location of the speed camera giving you enough advanced warning so that you stay informed and safe on the roads.

From the FoxyTag website

“You are also invited to signal speed cameras that have already been tagged; by confirming their presence, you create trust links with other users and get more reliable information. The system excludes automatically users that do not vote “like the others”. Roughly speaking, the more you participate, the more the information you get is reliable.

FoxyTag is a “collaborative” system. Tags posted by FoxyTag are directional. So, tags posted for users driving in the opposite direction won’t be signalized to you.

FoxyTag motivates neither speeding nor any other risky behavior, but allows the driver to concentrate on the road instead of having is eyes fixed on the speedometer, by fear of being flashed. We observe that drivers tend to brake suddenly when they see a speed camera (even if they are not speeding), which can provoke traffic jams or even accidents. FoxyTag signals in advance the presence of speed cameras, so that the driver has enough time to check its speed and adapt it if necessary.”

Given that Peterborough is grinding to a halt thanks to endless roadworks littered with speed cameras,  systems like FoxyTag can only be a good thing.  I’ve already got myself a GPS receiver thanks to my DIY Satnav so I’ll be reporting on my FoxyTag findings shortly.

VW’s 650bhp W12 concept Golf… Lives!!

Volkswagen provides journalists with hat-based lunches by not only demonstrating the W12 concept Golf in motion but also giving the lucky few the chance to put the car through it’s paces for themselves.

Everyone is wondering whether this will make it to the forecourts and my guess is yes – the car is mad enough for VW to decide to put it out there like Bugatti did with the Veyron.
