Fox and Hounds Peterborough closes

I’ve just spotted a story on the Evening Telegraph’s website on the Fox and Hounds closing following it’s recent change in ownership.

Last I heard was that it had improved recently too so it’s a shame that they’ve had to close the doors.  Hopefully it’s just a temporary setback and nothing to do with my last post on the Fox and Hounds Longthorpe pub…

Hurrah! It’s opening again, though for how long is not certain…

Hopefully, it’ll have the same ambiance that it used to have before it got ‘done up’ a couple of years or so ago. It rapidly went down hill after that – I mean the decor was changed from warm reds to cold green with harsh lighting and the food deteriorated too, so I’m not surprised it got closed down. It used to be our favourite pub, but now we go the the Cuckoo in Awalton which is further away. Looking forward to it reopening, and hopefully the next owners will have learnt form the past mistake.

I personally thought the food was much better after it was “done up”. Always one of my favourite places in Peterborough to go for a bite to eat. I always found it more gay friendly than most Peterborough pubs and actually met my boyfriend there last year. I hope it doesn’t close down, we go there on our anniversary every month to celebrate and remember how lucky we are x

I read on another site that it reopens on the 27th Jan, I’ll be there to inspect it!

For Steph and Austins information, I am visiting this site tomorrow morning to reinstall the till system and to let you know that the ownorship has changed back to the previous owners over the Christmas period…
This site was recently owned by “Orchid” and is going back to “Spirit”, the last owners before “Orchid”!!! Nothing much will have changed at the site itself, and I have looked at it on the web this evening and it is obviosly in good condition. Hope that you will both revisit and enjoy the pub (as that is what we should ALL be doing…not easy at the moment as we all know…). I’ll try and post an entry tomorrow evening to let you know about the management and staff.

PS, the last ex-Orchid site I visited was in Wales and was in excellent condition and Spirit are obviously working very hard to right the wrongs of the Orchid regime.

    Cheers for now.

Phil, thanks for that invaluable information – if you can update us when you know more that would be appreciated.

Looking forward to seeing it again, although according to what Phil the Till says, the decor will still be cold greens and harsh lighting! Bring back the candles and warmth! Maybe I’m just a frustrated interior designer ;)

Well, I visited the other evening at about 8pm and the place was pretty dead. No change to decor and in the evening, the drab, dull greens are really draining. No change to the lighting; just a step down in bulb wattage might do the trick or different lamp shades. Having said that, the menu was ok and maybe it would be a more buzzing nicer place to sit in the daytime with the sun coming in through the windows. Shan’t be visiting again.

I went back with my OH at the weekend and we got glared at for having a bit of a kiss and a cuddle in the corner. This is not what I remember from the pub last year, and will not be giving them my business any more! Vote with the pink pound, that’s what I say.

To Austin; perhaps if there had been more people in there, you wouldn’t have got noticed! ;)
