No town centre fun for Peterborough
June 17th, 2008 Posted in peterboroughThe results of the Peterborough ET’s recent night life survey is in and the results aren’t that surprising when it sometimes feels that the only people that are vocal with their opinions are those that don’t really have anything good to say about Peterborough.
With only 12% of those surveyed rating Peterborough as “Good” or “Excellent” for a night out you’d think most city residents would be on anti-depressants by now. However, on a closer looking at the survey results it seems that only 21% never enjoy a night out in Peterborough - that’s 79% of people surveyed enjoying a night out at some point.
So how are the 79% enjoying their night out if 88% (59% rating poor and 29% rating average) are generally unhappy with the experience?

Survey results aside, Peterborough’s night life is taking a battering in the press at the moment, bars and clubs are closing down all over the place and restaurateurs are reporting a drop in trade.
So what’s the answer? As someone that goes out into town (when I’m not taking up a bed at PDH), I don’t struggle to have a nice drink with friends and there are plenty of good restaurants to eat in. Violence seems to be something suffered by the minority or those looking for trouble - there’s certainly no shortage of street wardens or Police in the city centre!
The only thing I feel is really lacking at the moment is the availability of secure late night car parks. This is essential in my opinion to encouraging people into town (to my knowledge only the market car park is open late at weekends).
Anyone fancy a drink?
