More petrol vs diesel
June 2nd, 2008 Posted in automotiveA couple of days ago I wrote about the increasing cost of fuelling a car and whether the petrol / diesel price difference really is worth it any more.
Since then I’ve spotted an article by Autocar magazine stating that the eagerly-anticipated Skoda Fabia Mk2 vRS may not use a diesel engine, instead relying on a turbo-powered petrol engine to provide any hope of sportiness. This reminded me about a feature written by well-known performance motoring hack Peter Knivett for VW magazine Golf+.
Published back in May 2005, the article uses two Mk4 Golf’s - hand picked for a head to head grudge match. One Golf uses a 1.8T petrol engine tweaked to the nines by Peterborough-based Jabbasport and the other an oil burning diesel courtesy of Allard Engineering.
Both cars are seriously drivable on the road which makes a change for this type of shootout but power figures are still far from sensible.
