Literally hot off the press is news that as part of the Government’s “New University Challenge” whereby 20 new University campuses are set to receive funding over the next six years.
Obviously nothing is set in stone, but Labour candidate for Peterborough Ed Murphy has been on the case and is campaigning hard for a Peterborough University campus fit for the 21st century!
As an alumnus of Peterborough Regional College myself, I wouldn’t mind seeing the facilities there incorporated into the University campaign as it would be a massive boost to the college however my one concern would be the appalling state of the transport infrastructure around the city at the moment. If Eastfield is going to get an influx of students then something needs to be done to sort regular public transport as parking isn’t really going to happen.
I belive other sites are also being earmarked such as the current Peterborough District Hospital which should make for a great location within walking distance of the town centre and bus and rail stations.
…this is the best present I could have hoped for.
Ed Murphy has commented that the Peterborough University announcement couldn’t have come at a better time as with his birthday being in March, it’s the best present he could have hoped for! I would have said a Porsche 911 would be my best present but I guess some people have other priorities.
Ed continued to say “Now we need to make sure we make the best out of this opportunity and ensure our University has the right subjects to study and is at the leading edge of sustainability and environment studies.”
