A few of the thoughts from my head in no particular order

Edoya Noodle Bar Review

March 12th, 2008 Posted in curry monster, me, peterborough

On a busy Saturday afternoon in the middle of Peterborough city centre, where the order of the day is a greasy burger and people just a few doors down are queuing into the street to get a “French” sandwich and a cup of tea, I’m sitting with the girlfriend in a bustling Edoya hidden away down Wentworth Street.

I’ve blogged about this Japanese noodle bar and sushi restaurant before but this time I managed to tear myself away from the food just long enough to take a photo of my meal so that I can share it with all of you.

“Edoya of Japan” was busier today than it had been in the past (maybe the word is getting out) but the service and food didn’t suffer for it. We were seated on the end of one of the rows of benches and started scanning the menu.

There are no starters at Edoya, just side dishes. This is a little odd at first, to me at least but it makes sense as the chefs can just do their job of cooking fantastic dishes without worrying about plates getting cold. We decided on my “usual” of the Vietnamese-influenced Ga nuong xa (grilled chicken skewers) which is served with a delicious little chilli dip, and a portion of Ebi tempura - Tiger prawns in tempura batter.

Edoya Peterborough noodle dishFor mains we both chose another dish I’d had in the past which was on the specials menu. Sadly I don’t remember the name but it was beef on noodles, a description which doesn’t do it any justice I’m afraid so hopefully a photo will suffice:

Needless to say we both thoroughly enjoyed the meals and at £28 for two people (including three drinks) it is a little more expensive than a bucket of chicken or a burger value meal, but at least you know you are going to leave Edoya satisfied that not only is the food as fresh as it looks but it tastes damn good too.

I didn’t realise there was a noodle bar in Peterborough. It sounds great. We will give it a try. Thanks

It might be damn good for many people but for a native japanese it is an insult to get into a japanese restaurant where the food served is mainly chinese. Believe me, apart from the sushi, which was not great either, i couldn’t find anything japanese.. I hope the british costumers don’t leave that place believing that all those greasy crap they make in that shop is japanese; the staff are all chinese and in japan the word benjo (便所)is an old and rude word for toilet.
