A few of the thoughts from my head in no particular order

Big Brother’s 19 year old entrepreneur Liam Young

January 5th, 2008 Posted in entertainment, web

There’s nothing the public like more than picking up on other people’s failings as a human being and lying to get yourself onto national TV… well, Big Brother… has got to be up there with the likes of murder, robbery and stealing the gifts out of the middle of crackers on Xmas day.

So when I turned over to watch E4 and saw big Scot John Loughton being controlled by Matt Lucas I thought it might be worth watching for at least a few minutes. Just a few minutes later a new housemate enters and it’s self-proclaimed “entrepreneur” 19 year old Liam Young from Liverpool.

As soon as Liam (he’s the one with the lopsided hair in case you were wondering/bothered) mentioned his business was an e-consultancy, my curiosity got the better of me and off to Google I went. My thirst for gossip was quickly quenched with this fantastic article from Kane Andrews revealing a not so clean cut side to Liam Young’s so called talent.

Edit - Seems that Digital Spy is the source of most of the dirt on Kane’s article so visit the original thread as it’s well worth a read.

The article lists several links to Liam’s business past including a couple of threads on the WebHosting Talk forums but further digging (pointlessly) reveals another site - YoungNet International which sadly now only redirects back to the OxyUK company he’s currently a director of. Thankfully the Wayback machine is on hand - http://web.archive.org/web/20040604002947/http://www.ynactive.com/

Another string to Liam’s bow is his acting career which he’s no doubt keen to revive following his exit from the Big Brother house. The lad has starred in Coronation Street, Hollyoaks, Grange Hill and even the recent film Alfie but the highlight has to be on an episode of Tonight with Trevor McDonald where he played Gavin Arvizo, a boy that became one of Michael Jackson’s “special friends”.

Regardless of all this, I’m sure that under the watchful eye of the BB cameras and editors, we will start to see the true side of Liam Young, 19, Entrepreneur.

Kane was not the first to pick up on Young Liam’s lies.

Check this thread from the sleuths at Digital Spy: http://www.digitalspy.co.uk/forums/showthread.php?t=722539

Yup, not Kane’s research. And the fact that he edits any comments on his blog linking to that thread is indicative that he’s deliberately trying to take credit for other people’s research.

trollface - Blog authors often regurgitate other’s research though and Kane’s post gave me a few nice links to get my post started :)

Helen - Cheers for the DS link. The thread on there is pure gold!

Kane Andrews stole that information from DigitaSpy and did not credit them.

@not authorized - I credited both my source (Kane’s article) and the source he used. Didn’t you read any of my post?

For TheRecord, I KNOW Liam Young, I’m From Liverpool Myself, Speke To Be Exact, And I Can 100% Clarify That His Business IS Real, Say What You Wish, But I Can Honestly Say It Is Real.

    @Adam

No one is saying he doesnt have ‘a business’ just that he doesnt make anywhere near £200,000 per year

The numbers do NOT add up. That is clear. There is no evidence of his huge customer base. The facts are there for everyone to see. We all know how easy it is to setup a website nowadays, and give that great image. It takes an awful lot of hardwork.

There is lots of accusations out there, and they do make a lot of sense. But I say fair play to him - if he hasn’t already made a name for himself (which clearly he hasn’t done that well) he would of now.

    I agree!

As a scouser myself I’m pretty appauled at him doing something so low, I guess it’s the sacrifice of fame nowadays. “I want to set an example for people to follow” or whatever the hell he said, so he wants us all to lie our way into success? Lovely.

I don’t think the mainstream media has picked up on all of this yet? Lets see what this lad has to say to defend himself.

Lets look at this in reality (I’m not a Liam fan, nor am I a Big Brother fan) but I too run a business and in honesty the guy does have a legal company set up which is registered for VAT I know so many small web hosting people that don’t register as a legal company.

The phrase “we all have to start somewhere” springs to mind. In the past I started a web hosting business which was set up in a similar way to Liam using reseller accounts (which to correct many posts on certain forums) is NOT in any way illegal or fake.

Reseller Hosting is a method of starting a small home based business which does lead to bigger and better things. The only mistakes he has made and to be honest again he has been something of a prat but all he has really done wrong is to pretend the business is bigger than it really is.

I don’t know of anyone who has made a fortune from reseller hosting but it is possible to build a VERY large business from hosting in your bedroom look up the Fasthosts story that company was started by a 16 y/old from his bedroom and he sold it to a bigger company for millions of pounds.

Liam should have known he would be caught out if he has any business savvy at all, as a legally registered company (as I am) anyone can pay a visit to the Companies House website and buy a copy of his accounts for the small sum of £1 so it really easy to verify his facts (you can only buy the accounts once they are filled and as Liam’s company was only registered last year he isn’t due to file full accounts yet) so don’t all rush to buy them.

Making wild claims of the earnings which to me and many other people who understand the process of running a web hosting business or any other kind of business for that matter doesn’t add up.

It didn’t take a brain surgeon to quickly add up his figures and see that they just didn’t work. But how many companies have you dealt with in the past that try to make them selfs look bigger than they really are?

I could name hundreds for you ………. so to close he hasn’t actually done anything wrong in a legal sense in terms of company … all he’s really done is claim to be bigger than he really is so maybe people should start to investigate the reality of the situation before spouting FAKE ……… I don’t agree with his methods but surely the Big Brother producers should have verified his information before they allowed him on to the show.

This again really shows the lack of research carried out by the Big Brother producers and researchers … or is the real question they knew but they thought it would make yet another TV splash to boost ratings at the expense of a young 19 y/old who is obviously going to be scorned by the media and Big Brother fans whilst he is there and even more so when he leaves.

I met him a few times in manchester before he went on bigbrother, he always seemed a bit strange. He acted like he had money all the time and seems to think that he is really good looking. He also comes across very desperate for friendship and sex. He was always posting bulletins asking if anyone would like to stay at a hotel with him or somthing.
Oh and when i questioned him about his “acting career”, he told me that he was currently in an america sit-com but i knew he was making it all up straight away.
