The Banyan Tree Peterborough
It’s not often I’m truly ecstatic about a restaurant. There’s something about handing over a fistful of twenties when you’ve just stuffed a plate of rice and curry down your neck that just doesn’t make sense when every other show on TV is about making full use of your own kitchen.
So it’s with great surprise (to me at least) that I find myself recommending The Banyan Tree in Peterborough (Werrington). I visited the restaurant mid-week for a family birthday (mine!) and we had an absolutely fantastic time. Words really do not do this restaurant justice.
All the dishes are explained on the menu so there’s no worries about not really knowing what to expect.
The Banyan Tree is one of these ultra-modern Indian restaurants that prides itself on it’s menu. Gone are the traditional Jalfrazi and Balti dishes you’d normally expect to see in every other restaurant and in their place are mouthwatering curries, breads and rice.
For diners that aren’t familiar with Indian cuisine, you will really be spoiled and will always compare other restaurants with The Banyan Tree. All the dishes are explained on the menu so there’s no worries about not really knowing what to expect.
Regardless of whether you’re a fans of meat, vegetable or fish the Banyan Tree ticks all the right boxes (the Goan fish curry is an absolute must). On our visit, we went for spinach patties and a mixed grill for starters followed by a selection of mains for all the table to dig into.
Prices are also very reasonable with the majority of mains dishes costing between £6-8 and considering the variety in the menu, this is very very good.
My only regret is that there is too much choice and I will now have to make several return trips to taste it all!
Even though the restaurant is on the outskirts of the city in the depths of Werrington (it’s next to the Cock Inn pub if you’re having trouble finding it), it’s only a short drive or taxi from wherever you are and it’s definately worth it.
The Banyan Tree just raised the bar a few notches!

We’ve been going to the Banyan for a few months and haven’t got a bad word to say about it. We’re even going this weekend!
Yeah, I ordered a take away from the Banyan Tree last weekend and was really surprised.
Most Indian take-away I have always found to be much of a muchness. Same old stodgy sauces with clumpy naan breads for dipping.
The food at Banyan seemed totally “fresh” and original, very unlike the vast majority of Indian food I have eaten.
The menu was contemporary and exciting, but most of all the food was really unbelievable, very light and tasteful. Everything was well prepared and the presentation was also great.
I’ll be going back for more, this was totally on another level.
Try it!
very good
it may be small, but the layout is fantastic. there is so much to chose from in the menu!
it is absolutely brilliant
I’m working in the area and had been looking for a good place to go out. I saw your review and thought I would give it a go.
I went to the Banyan Tree yesterday (21 Feb). It was fairly busy for a Thursday night. I’d been looking at all the reviews and thought would try it. First time there. The waiter recommended the Lamb Rogan. It was really good. well impressed and thank you for providing the info on it.
