Peterborough Council have launched a scheme to score hundreds of restaurants across the city for food hygiene and safety, structure of the establishment and confidence in management.
This gives consumers the opportunity to make informed choices about where they choose to eat or buy food based on food safety.
Currently, when a business is inspected by a health and safety officer, scores are awarded to the premises according to the standards found at the time of the visit. This score also calculates the star rating in the “Scores on the Doors” scheme. The business will be sent a sticker and/or certificate showing the number of stars they achieved.
The lowest score of 0 stars was “awarded” to the recently opened Pussy Galores / Gem bar, which replaces the recently renamed-then-closed Melillo’s / The Restaurant (I always thought it was a bit suspect renaming a restaurant…).
Restaurants receiving the full 5 stars included two McDonalds (Boongate and Glinton), the Paul Pry, Prezzo and The Golden Cod.
