The Government (UK) have teamed up with What Car magazine to help consumers find the CO2 levels of cars, based on the class of car.
The Act on CO2 website does a great job of promoting cleaner, more efficient engines and smarter driving.
So now if you’re in the market for an MPV that will take all the family and the dog, you can consciously choose the car in that class with the lowest emissions. Doing your bit for the environment, reducing your carbon footprint and all that.
The site also includes handy hints for increasing your fuel economy (and lowering your emissions of course!) such as checking your tyre pressures and cutting out on over-revving the engine.
Hot hatches don’t fair too bad, although thanks partly due to the inclusion of diesel fuel types. Top of the pops is the Seat Ibiza with the 1.9 PD130 Euro IV BLT engine (2006>) – same as my Fabia vRS then with a CO2 (g/km) of 139.
This all spells bad news for the Performance class however, with all being red flagged on CO2 levels – Porsche’s 911 GT3 only just being pipped to the “worst polluter” podium by Audi’s S4 V8 Quattro.
For company car drivers, BMW’s 120d and 320d get a baby-poo green rating which I’m assuming is quite good. Not a bad choice at all if you’re “doing your bit” and like a bit of BMW.
